Raccoon Removal From Roof Vent – Newmarket

Job Overview

Location: Newmarket, Ontario
Structure: Detached split-level home with attached garage
Problem: Nocturnal attic noises consistent with raccoon activity
Service: Raccoon removal
Visits: 2

Summary

Pest Control Newmarket was contacted after the homeowner reported nighttime noises coming from the attic. An inspection confirmed raccoon activity, with a primary entry point through a roof vent that had been forcibly removed. Humane exclusion was completed using a one-way door, followed by sealing and confirmation that no further activity occurred.

Background / Property Context

The property is a detached split-level home with an attached garage. Rooflines and attic vents were accessible from the exterior and showed signs of wildlife pressure. The work was completed in January, prior to raccoon baby season.

Customer Concern

The homeowner reported repeated sounds in the attic during overnight hours and was concerned about potential damage to the roof and insulation.

Inspection & Findings

During the initial inspection, our technician identified a roof vent that had been ripped open, leaving a clear opening into the attic space. The surrounding shingles and vent area showed visible disturbance consistent with raccoon entry. No secondary entry points were observed during this visit.

Cause Analysis

Raccoons commonly target roof vents due to their location, material, and direct access to attic spaces. In colder months, attics provide warmth and shelter, increasing pressure on exterior openings. A damaged or unsecured vent presents a low-resistance entry point for a strong animal like a raccoon.

Treatment / Removal

A humane one-way door was installed over the damaged roof vent to allow the raccoon to exit without re-entry. The installation was secured and made waterproof to protect the interior while the exclusion device was in place. This approach allowed the animal to leave the attic safely and non-lethally.

Exclusion & Repairs

Once the homeowner confirmed no further activity, we returned for a second visit. The one-way door was removed, and the roof vent opening was properly sealed. The immediate area was inspected to confirm the repair was intact. A quote for additional wildlife-proofing of the roof was provided during the first visit; however, the homeowner chose not to proceed with further exclusion work.

Outcome & Confirmation

At the follow-up visit, no further raccoon activity was reported. The exclusion device had done its job, the entry point was sealed, and no new disturbances were observed. The site was left secure, and the issue was considered resolved at the time of service completion.
